Pain Interventions
Chronic pain can be absolutely devastating. From the smallest task to the biggest moments in your life, pain can seem like a cloud over your whole existence. For patients who’ve gone through multiple different pain relief options, it can often feel like there’s just no hope. But Medtronic, with their portfolio of cutting-edge pain intervention products, has brought hope to so many. What they needed from us was a way to clearly communicate how their products worked, and help patients find all of the information they needed to make an informed decision.

Raising Awareness
Pain interventions such as Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) and Targeted Drug Deliver (TDD) are relatively new innovations in pain management. Because of that, Medtronic needed to use their website to not only explain the effectiveness of their solutions, but to explain how they work and how they differ from other pain solutions.
To do this, we started by conducting a series of moderated and unmoderated user interviews to better understand the types of challenges patients were facing and the key pieces of content they needed to make an informed decision. I also conducted a comprehensive competitive analysis to see how competitors were addressing these needs and positioning themselves against competitors in the market. Finally, I performed a current state audit of Medtronic web experience – both for prospective patients, and for the Healthcare providers that are crucial for recommending these interventions.
This detail discovery uncovered a series of critical gaps in content and functionality that Medtronic would need to address in order to compete other providers. That led to a experience strategy and recommendations document which informed a 3-5 year roadmaps for improvements.
