Content Brief
What is a Content Brief?
A content brief outlines the key objectives and requirements for a content project. Whether you're working on a new campaign, a website redesign, a product launch, or a single page of copy, a well-written content brief can help ensure that everyone involved in the project is aligned and working towards the same goals.
Below are a series of thought-starters to help you get started on creating a content brief.
Define the Project Objectives
Be as specific as possible in outlining the project objectives.
What are the overall goals of the content?
What problem are you trying to solve or opportunity are you trying to capitalize on using content?
Identify the Target Audience
By better understanding your target audience, you’ll be able to craft impactful messaging and content that addresses your audience’s informational needs and pain points. Existing user personas from the client can be validated against market expectations and your own research.
Who is the intended audience for the project?
What are their demographics, interests, and behaviors? What motivates them, and what are their pain points?
Outline the Key Messages
Consider any existing branding or messaging guidelines that could be incorporated.
What are the core messages you want to communicate to your target audience? What is the unique value proposition? What are your 3-4 key messaging pillars?
What benefits or value propositions will resonate most with each audience?
Do you need to update or refine the messaging to adapt to new market trends or needs?
Determine the Content Requirements
What specific content deliverables are required for the project?
Are there any legal requirements or restrictions that need to be taken into consideration?
Are there any technical or creative specifications that need to be considered, including length, tone of voice, or product-specific messages?
What are the deadlines for each deliverable?
