Content Zones (Priority Guides)

What is a content zone?

A content zone (sometimes referred to as a Priority Guide) strategy prioritizes content hierarchy on the page and the relevant types of content within each area. The hierarchy is based on relevance to users, with the content most critical to satisfying user needs and supporting user (and company) goals higher up.

Zones consider the context of the page and meet people with what they need, when they need it. It also offers repeatability across templates/pages and acts as a reference for content creators.

Why do we create content zones?

Content zone strategies are beneficial for multiple reasons.

  • Helps guide the creation of wireframes based on real content needs instead of visual elements

  • Provides people with relevant information, as it pertains to their specific journey, containing clear next steps.

  • Considers the context of the page and meets people with what they need, when they need it.

  • Offers repeatability among sections within the website

  • Acts as a guide to understand content priority and what content items and types align within each zone.
